Students who are new to Deborah's classes may attend Saturday only, Saturday morning only, or the whole weekend. Students who have previously attended one of Deborah's Back Care Weekend Workshops may attend either day for $100 or any half day for $60. One parent may accompany their teen with scoliosis for free.
This workshop is intended for both yoga students and teachers.
Deborah Wolk began her yoga practice in 1994 and eventually found that practicing yoga with a strong alignment focus could control back pain and arrest the progression of her scoliosis.
Since 2002 Ms. Wolk has taught Yoga & Scoliosis and Yoga for Back Care workshops in New York City, nationwide and in Europe and Asia. In 2003 she created the first weekly Yoga & Scoliosis class on the East Coast.
In 2007-2014 Ms. Wolk Co-Founded and Co-Directed the successful but now defunct Yoga Union Center for Backcare and Scoliosis. Here she conceptualized and taught a wide variety of classes for students with back problems and scoliosis including the first Yoga & Scoliosis classes for children and Yoga & Scoliosis classes for students with Harrington Rods and other spinal fusions. Descriptions of Deborah’s classes have been written up in YogaCity NYC, The New York Times, as well as by the now (in)famous writer Emily Gould!
January 2015 marked the opening of Samamkaya Yoga Back Care & Scoliosis Collective. Deborah founded this workers cooperative to simultaneously offer a unique boutique style center devoted exclusively to Back Care & Scoliosis and to support the amazing and talented faculty there. She teaches classes and workshops for students and teachers and is Director of Programming.
