Robin Richardson

Robin has been practicing martial arts since 1994 and been studying with Josef Haber since 2009, focusing on Ba Gua Zhang and Xing Yi Quan.  Their teaching approach emphasizes the biomechanical principles and underlying kinesthetics behind the kung fu rather than rote forms or prescriptive techniques.  Robin also teaches introductory biology classes at Portland Community College.

Beginning Ba Gua Zhang:  Ba Gua Zhang (Pa Kua Chang) is one of the traditional internal martial arts of China.  It’s dynamic coiling, yoga-like stretches, and sudden expressions of power make it hypnotic to watch and to practice.  This beginner’s class is designed to introduce the core principles, practices, applications, and forms of this elaborate and esoteric style of kung fu as given to us by our teachers in Beijing.  Activities will be taught with an emphasis on proper body structure and gradual strengthening of the body as to avoid injury and allow long term practice.  All contact will be done in a safe and consenting manner.  - Starting June 3rd!

Xing Yi Quan: (Hsing I Chuan) is one of the tradiitonal internal martial arts of China. It shares many principles and benefits with Tai Ji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan) and is an excellent introduction to "internal"-style movement, expressing power, and full body health.  This class introduces the "Five Elements" of Xing Yi Quan, a series of five easy to learn basic movements that provide the foundation of this style.  Each class will include basic warm ups and forms practice as well as partner work and applications.  All contact will be done in a safe and consenting manner.  This class is co-taught by Rob and Aaron.
